Ashley's Story

Mental Health Therapist

Before you choose a counsellor, you might want to know a little bit about who you’re meeting. Here are the top 5 things you should know about me:

  • I am passionate about two things, Science and People. This is why I do this work.

  • I worked in the hospitality industry for more than a decade and what I learned about people, meeting their needs and connection informs everything I do.

  • I will always support my clients finding a therapist they like and trust, even if it isn’t me.

  • To my core, I believe that psychology and counselling can change peoples lives for the better as it has for me personally and those close to me.

  • My favorite analogy is the airplane safety phrase that says you must put the oxygen mask on yourself before assisting others.

Pursuing a career in counselling starts with years of experience working in restaurants since I was 15. Although at times it was just “burgers and fries” my experience working in restaurants has given me the chance to connect with hundreds of strangers in unsuspecting and deeply meaningful ways. It was these raw moments of human connection that led me to look for a career where I could focus on making others feel seen. I focus on building genuine connection with my clients through trust, acceptance and authenticity. I strive to highlight the resilience and strengths of my clients and honor you as the expert of your own life. Lastly, I employ evidence-based strategies and attachment theory with a trauma informed approach.

Currently I am a Mental Health Therapist offering low-cost counselling at a rate of $95/hour. Being a mental health therapist means that I have completed my internship and continue to provide counselling to clients while I finish up school. After completion of my Masters, I intend to apply to be a Provisionally Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists.

Beyond school and counselling I enjoy spending time with my busy dog, Marlo, and my husband. I like cooking (most of the time), I usually have a podcast or two on the go, I like to travel as much as I can, my favourite colour is blue and I am probably taller in person than you think I will be!

Looking forward to meeting you.
